Exploring the Science--Society Interface with a Bridging Research Course

This article describes the development of a model for an optional, research-based course that bridges two existing, traditionally separate, introductory science courses. This research course provided freedom for students to design and implement new experiments on the basis of technical foundations built from enrollment in separate introductory biology and organic chemistry labs.
