Describes the development of an automatic referral system (Autorf) on an inpatient alcohol and day unit (N=150). Preliminary results with regard to the validity of the Autorf system are reported. Implications for treatment of alcoholics and program efficiency are discussed. (JAC)

The relationship between the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST) and the subject's sex and income was significant. If male or poor, he was more likely to receive a higher score on MAST. Developed and evaluated a home-based contracting program to determine its effect on the compliance rates of 25 discharged alcohol patients to a disulfiram (antabuse) regimen. Critiqued and reanalyzed a recent study of the validity of five Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) alcoholism scales.
