Major influences on career choice among 153 allied health students were need to help others, prestige, autonomy, and advancement and income potential. Risk of malpractice suits and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome were negative influences for medical laboratory majors, but not for dietetics and physical therapy majors. (SK)

During the course of an experimental program (students from nine health disciplines were placed in a rural primary care situation for eight weeks), student attitudes toward and perceptions of rural practice became more favorable, and an increased number of students stated intentions to practice in a rural area. The economic status, salary, and continued education experiences of 69 Black females who completed health career programs at the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in June 1973 were investigated. It was concluded that the graduates appeared to have experienced success in pursuing and achieving career objectives. (JH)
