In order for American social scientists to effectively contribute to international social science, they must confront two challenges. They must come to terms with the problems generated by the fragmentation of the American social science disciplines and with the involvement of American social science with American foreign policy. There is inadequate utilization of social science research in policymaking in India. This is due to the time gap between research and publication, mismatch between need and supply, and the inadequacies of the research. Better performance within the academic system, as well as better communication, can ensure better utilization. (CS)
