This paper analyzes the decisions and experiences of 52 academics from four universities who agreed to retire early because of increased annulities or substantial lump-sum severance payments. Only one respondent was dissatisfied with his decision to retire early; 73 percent were very satisfied. (Author)

Examined partial retirement among older self-employed and wage and salary workers. Found much more partial retirement among the self-employed. Retirement status was correlated with health, age, Social Security and pension eligibility, and wealth. Suggests workers might choose part-time employment if opportunities were available. A conceptual framework for analyzing later life adjustment was used to study retired diocesan priests (N=27). Access to and utilization of opportunities for continuing earlier life patterns had significant impact upon the retirement adjustment of priests.
