Administrators in higher education disclosed life style patterns for the "retirement period" from ages 65 to 75. Two contrasting patterns are described-Transformers and Maintainers. These groups reported differences in boyhood experiences, attitudes toward retirement, and choices of activity after age 65. (Author)

Surveyed 1,498 residents and waiting list members of two Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs). Found that reasons for joining CCRCs included access to services and protection for spouse. Recent joiners expressed more concerns about lifestyle and locational issues related to moving to a CCRC. (Author/NB)

A national personal interview survey, repeating the core questions asked 10 years earlier on retirement plans, finds the previously recorded "age effect" to be apparently neither an age nor a cohort effect. The nature of leisure participation among retirees and the effect of "types" of leisure on life satisfaction were the subject of this study. Isolate activities were found to be most prevalent. Life satisfaction appeared to be influenced by activity "type", number of activities, and participation-enjoyment congruence. (Author)
