Enhancing an Epic: Teaching "The Odyssey" with Drama-Based Activities

Student enjoyment is important when creating any unit, but teachers should also consider if an activity will enhance learning. In addition to being enjoyable, drama-based activities enrich learning by disrupting passivity, encouraging participation, and enhancing comprehension. This article showcases ways to include these activities in a unit focused on "The Odyssey." Additionally, it discusses how drama-based activities support Language Arts Standards and how using a play adaptation of the "The Odyssey" increased the author's ninth grade honors students' engagement in the unit.
