Fulgham, Susan M.; Shaughnessy, Michael F.
Educational Technology, v54 n2 p32-38 Mar-Apr 2014
Susan M. Fulgham and Michael F. Shaughnessy, Contributing Editors for this journal, present their interview with Marcia C. Linn, Professor of Development and Cognition, specializing in education in mathematics, science, and technology, in the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley. Linn is currently investigating ways to capitalize on emerging technologies to improve teaching and learning. In the interview that follows, Marcia Linn shares her interests in how to take advantage of dynamic, interactive visualizations of complex science concepts, such as chemical reactions, thermodynamics, climate change, and photosynthesis to improve understanding of complex science topics; ways to use learning environments, such as the Web-based Inquiry Science Environment (WISE), to promote cumulative learning; and in exploring how to design automated guidance by scoring embedded assessments in the WISE environment and using the scores to personalize instruction.
