Lytton, Hugh; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1973
This reply refers to PS 502 345 which in turn is a criticism of EJ 045 083. (CB)
Descriptors: Error of Measurement, Reading Difficulty, Research Methodology, Statistical Analysis

Cherlin, Andrew – Developmental Psychology, 1991
Since the mid-1960s, longitudinal surveys specifically designed to be publicly available to the research community have been carried out. Some recent surveys contain measurements of children's development and present opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration involving developmental psychologists. Benefits of collaborative research are…

Entwisle, Doris R.; Frasure, Nancy E. – Developmental Psychology, 1974
Replicates earlier studies and shows that children's ability to process syntactically well-formed sentences increases over the early school years. (Author/ED)
Descriptors: Cues, Elementary School Students, Grammar, Language Acquisition

Buss, Allan R.; Royce, Joseph R. – Developmental Psychology, 1975
Presents: (1) an outline of prototype age-related changes in cognitive structure; (2) an application of these interrelationships to some existent research and concepts in the abilities domain; and (3) a discussion of the multifactor approach in structuring age-related change to organismic views of cognitive development. (SDH)
Descriptors: Cognitive Ability, Conceptual Schemes, Developmental Psychology, Factor Analysis

Stricker, Lawrence J.; Rock, Donald A. – Developmental Psychology, 1987
Evaluated the extent to which the Graduate Record Examinations General Test measures the same constructs for older test takers that it does for younger examinees. Results suggest that the convergent validity of the test is similar across the age groups, but discriminant validity is somewhat different for older examinees. (Author/RWB)
Descriptors: Adults, Age Differences, Comparative Testing, Factor Analysis

Wilson, Ronald S. – Developmental Psychology, 1975
To examine the ability of the correction factor epsilon to counteract statistical bias in univariate analysis, an analysis of variance (adjusted by epsilon) and a multivariate analysis of variance were performed on the same data. The results indicated that univariate analysis is a fully protected design when used with epsilon. (JMB)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Data Analysis, Research Design, Statistical Analysis

Jordan, Lawrence A. – Developmental Psychology, 1975
Calls attention to several errors in a recent application of canonical correlation analysis. The reanalysis contradicts Cropley's conclusion that "creativity tests can be said to possess reasonable and encouraging long-range predictive validity." (Author/SDH)
Descriptors: Creativity Research, Creativity Tests, Multivariate Analysis, Predictive Validity

Vockell, Edward L.; Asher, William – Developmental Psychology, 1973
Article refers to EJ 045 083. (CB)
Descriptors: Reading Difficulties, Reading Difficulty, Research Design, Research Methodology

Brooks-Gunn, Jeanne; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1991
Two ways of studying lives in context through time are analysis of longitudinal data and secondary data analysis of long-term studies intended to answer questions not originally posed. The opportunities for, and limitations of, these types of analysis; their relevance to policy; and their applicability to interdisciplinary research are considered.…

Salthouse, Timothy A. – Developmental Psychology, 1993
Total of 305 adults ranging from 19-84 years of age and 100 college students were given a battery of tests that measured cognitive abilities and memory. Results indicated that a large proportion of age-related variance in cognition and memory was reduced when statistical control procedures, such as hierarchical regression, were used to eliminate…

Tran, Henry; Weinraub, Marsha – Developmental Psychology, 2006
Main and interactive effects of child care quality, stability, and multiplicity on infants' attachment security, language comprehension, language production, and cognitive development at 15 months were examined using data from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Study of Early Child Care. Thirty-nine percent of the…

Surber, Colleen F. – Developmental Psychology, 1977
Two experiments tested the applicability of Anderson's relative-weight averaging model to children's moral judgments based on intentions and consequences. (Author/JMB)
Descriptors: College Students, Elementary Education, Elementary School Students, Higher Education

McCall, Robert B.; Appelbaum, Mark I. – Developmental Psychology, 1991
Discusses procedures and considerations involved with secondary analyses of longitudinal databases. Procedures involve (1) formulating questions; (2) creating a feasibility matrix; (3) reformulating questions; (4) creating derived variables; (5) performing data reduction; (6) analyzing data; and (7) interpreting results. Problems associated with…

Duncan, Greg J. – Developmental Psychology, 1991
Secondary data analysis and interdisciplinary collaboration have a great deal to offer developmentalists. The research traditions of economists and sociologists have produced longitudinal studies that use national samples, develop useful statistical techniques for approximating experimental conditions, and result in theoretical insights into…
Descriptors: Child Development, Cooperation, Developmental Psychology, Economics

Bookstein, Fred L.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1996
Discusses the use of new statistical procedures in a study of the enduring effects of prenatal alcohol exposure upon the neurobehavioral development of some 500 children born in 1975-76. Explains how the Partial Least Squares (PLS) methodology can summarize the data powerfully while avoiding familiar inferential pitfalls. (MDM)
