Views on the Future of Business Education: Responses to Six Critical Questions
Kaliski, Burton S.
Delta Pi Epsilon Journal, v49 n1 p9-14 Win 2007
Questions about the future of business education have been asked and answered throughout its long history. The author posed six of these questions at the 2002 Peter L. Agnew Lecture at New York University. These six questions, all pointing to the year 2020, are: (1) What will business education be?; (2) Where will it be?; (3) How will it be delivered?; (4) Who will teach it?; (5) Who will prepare the teachers?; and (6) Who will lead us? Initially, the 12 members of The Agnew Group (TAG) answered these questions. The synthesis of their responses is found in "Business Education: A 20/20 Vision." Since the publication of that document, 47 other business educators have responded to the questions. After the initial twelve responses were reported, the six questions were produced in a survey format to be distributed at two conferences: the 2006 National Business Education Association (NBEA) conference in Tampa, Florida and the 2006 EBEA conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Several completed questionnaires were collected on site at the conferences while others were taken by members and surface/emailed to TAG over subsequent weeks. A notable response was from a large group of graduate business education students from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater (UWW). This article presents a synthesis of all 59 responses to the six questions. They are reported in a qualitative manner. (Contains 1 table.)
