Two explanations for school violence are evaluated from an historical viewpoint. One approach assumes an inherent relationship between the behavior of students and the disciplinary practices of the schools. The second approach attributes school disorders to characteristics of the students. (JN)

Short-term and long-term impacts of security operations are discussed in relation to the school administration, local law enforcement agencies, and the adolescent students. While many classroom problems can be solved by competent and able teachers, all discipline problems cannot be solved by teachers. It is possible to solve problems of discipline by involving the local community in making positive and needed changes. (JN)
