Four justifications for liberal education are examined: the content of liberal education is of intrinsic value; liberal education provides the most effective means of achieving personal goals; liberal education provides a basic understanding of the world; and the most useful preparation for any career is not narrow job-training. Offering a degree in advance of the traditional B.A. will "exalt the liberal arts curriculum" and better serve new students. The curriculum should be expanded to accommodate the less-qualified undergraduates and full service should be offered to the public, six days a week, year round. (MLW)
