The Mistreated Haiku and His Dizygotic Brother Senryu
Niece, Richard
Clearing House, 51, 5, 201-3, Jan 78
Haiku is a Japanese poem that deals with nature and contains seventeen syllables divided among three lines in the pattern of 5-7-5. Senryu is also a disciplined Japanese poem which deals directly with people and ideas. In Haiku, the reader utilizes imagination; in senryu, the interpretation has been supplied. Here are some creative suggestions for the English teacher faced with introducing his students to Haiku and Senryu. (Author/RK)
