To reverse the negative attitude toward foreign language study, it is asserted that professional classicists should organize and cooperate with the Modern Language Association/American Council of Learned Societies Task Force II. Statistics indicate a growing interest in the study of Latin across the country. In elementary and secondary schools, it is taught as an end in itself and as a means of improving the English language skills and the linguistic background of Hispanic students.
