A Researcher Sees "Room in the Middle"
Byrne, Richard
Chronicle of Higher Education, v54 n31 pA12 Apr 2008
Melanie M. Morey is the senior director of research and consulting at NarrowGate Consulting, a division of the Catholic Education Institute. She is also the author, with John J. Piderit, of "Catholic Higher Education: A Culture in Crisis," which is based in part on a study of 124 administrators at 33 Roman Catholic colleges and universities in the United States conducted in 2002. In this interview, Morey talks about Pope Benedict, her book, and Catholic higher education. She thinks one of the great advantages of what's going to happen with the pope's coming address is that Pope Benedict is himself a professor and has a deep appreciation for the university. She reminds academics that the pope, as one of them, is specially positioned to build on the intellectual tradition of Catholic colleges.
