Discusses the aspects of the nation-wide maternal and child health services available in the United Kingdom and Sweden including organization and regional planning, basic preventive and monitoring services, development and standards and guidelines for delivery, cooperation of professional and voluntary organizations and funding. Implications for a U.S. national health program are given. (ED)
