The Designathon Works Foundation
Beamer, Emer
Childhood Education, v98 n5 p58-63 2022
The Designathon Works Foundation teaches children (8 to 12 years old) the skills that help them develop ideas and solutions for a better world. By going through the Designathon method, many children discover that their possibilities are unlimited and they think beyond their borders, both literally and figuratively. The method focuses on building the inner abilities of all children, regardless of their gender, race, class, skill level, or learning situation. The ultimate aim at Designathon Works is to enable 1 million children in countries around the world to become changemakers for a better world and for society in turn to include them in co-designing the future. This article highlights the Designathon Works Foundation's annual Global Children's Designathon (GCD) in which children from different countries contact each other through a live connection, uniting them in their battle against the problems the world is facing. The GCD is dedicated to celebrating what the world could be like when children are put in charge of designing better futures. The GCD is also a call for changemakers and climate education on a global scale.
