Examined manifest needs of achievement, dominance, autonomy, and affiliation of counselors. Results indicated similarities in male and female counselors regarding achievement, dominance, and autonomy and that there was a consistent trend for the male counselors to have higher needs for affiliation than female counselors on the job. Subjects (N=22) completing a master's degree in counseling with prior counseling experience served as client and counselor under two different conditions. Of six hypotheses, the one confirmed held that when more prepared, the counselor would communicate in "expert" fashion; when less prepared, in equalitarian fashion. (Author)

Investigated assumptions that people choose careers which are consistent with their learning styles and are shaped to fit career learning norms.
