In a sample of first-year college women (N=88), loneliness was related to discrepancy between perceived and reflected self, and father's level of income. The characteristics, motives and goals of mature male students (N=22) are compared to those of an age-matched sample of mature women continuing their education. Men continued their education for career-oriented reasons, while women were seeking more personal goals. Explanations are suggested for male compliance with stereotypes. (Author)

A study involving 541 female students, in four grade levels in an urban commercial secondary school is reported. It was concluded that individual and group counselling have distinctively different effects, and that these effects tend to last for extended periods (at least one year) without reinforcement.
