The B-Word: Are Bonuses a Good Way to Attract and Motivate Top Fundraisers?
Meyers, Harriet
CURRENTS, v37 n6 p20-25 Jul-Aug 2011
Communications and person-to-person relationship skills are as important for fundraisers as they ever were. However, today's fundraisers must also have finely honed technology skills, the ability to conduct data analysis, an understanding of social media, and experience relating to people from a variety of cultures. Competing for and attracting fundraisers is only part of a foundation or development office's challenge. The second, and possibly more critical piece, is figuring out how to keep these heavyweights at their institutions. Fundraising bonuses, although controversial, are one tactic used to attract and retain those who contribute to the institution's bottom line.
