The results of a survey of 273 consumer education teachers in Illinois indicated that these teachers do not feel they have an adequate academic background in consumer education. Their responses were analyzed by undergraduate major. Business education teachers must be trained to teach basic business. (SC)

Consumerism is now accepted with dignity, leading to a burgeoning forth of interest in and nationwide approval of consumer education. A creed is presented which offers some suggestions and guidelines by which the consumer educator can evaluate his own effectiveness, modify his criteria for excellence, and continue to make the course relevant.
