Age of Learning Effects on the Duration of Sentences Produced in a Second Language.
Guion, Susan G.; Flege, James E.; Liu, Serena H.; Yeni-Komshian, Grace H.
Applied Psycholinguistics, v21 n2 p205-28 Jun 2000
Examined whether second language (L2) utterance durations increase as age of learning increases. Fluently produced English sentences spoken by 240 native speakers of both Italian and Korean were examined. Results give preliminary support for the proposal that the more established the first language during exposure to the second language, the more it will interfere with L2 production. (Author/VWL)
