Rock, Irvin; Gilchrist, Alan – American Journal of Psychology, 1975
This paper was concerned with the perceptions that can result from a change in the length of the retinal image of a line. Conditions that lead either to the perception of a line of changing length and the perception of a line of constant length undergoing covering or uncovering by another object were examined. Schmitt, John C.; Scheirer, C. James – American Journal of Psychology, 1977
Mixed lists of digit pairs and consonant pairs were presented under Sternberg's scanning paradigm. The results indicated that the subjects partitioned this material into discriminable subsets but apparently only used that structure to reduce response latency when the test probes were negative. Probe familiarity is discussed as a basis for this…

In an experiment on the effects of blank trials on probability learning, some informational parameters were varied. Data from other experiments are considered, and the relevance of the results to studies of behavior with concurrent…

Roediger, Henry L., III; Crowder, Robert G. – American Journal of Psychology, 1976
Performance on the last few items of a 12-word list was impaired when a spoken "Recall" was used as the cue for recall, relative to performance with a nonverbal cue. This suffix effect occured with four types of recall instructions after auditory presentation, including instructions for conventional serial and after free recall. (Editor)

Attempts to replicate Gogel's (1972) observations with points of light and examines in addition whether the same results would be obtained if the binocularly nearer object was made visually more massive than the farther object and if the residual oculomotor cues were varied to produce different values of the reference distance. Kestner, Jane; Walter, Donald A. – American Journal of Psychology, 1977
The effect of time of awareness of a subsequent test of recall and the relationship of that awareness and rote rehearsal were studied by telling subjects which specific items to encode before the item's presentation (prior instructions) or after its rehearsal (postrehearsal instructions) and by varying rehearsal intervals for individual items.…

Schiffman, H. R.; Bobko, Douglas J. – American Journal of Psychology, 1977
The influence of stimulus number and familiarity on judged duration were investigated. Results showed that the number of stimulus elements presented within a given interval affected its perceived duration, although the familiarity of those elements (as defined herein) did not. (Editor/RK)

Brussell, Edward M.; And Others – American Journal of Psychology, 1977
The possibility that subjective contours are an artifact of brightness contrast was explored. Concludes that subjective contour and brightness contrast are distinct perceptual phenomena but share a dependency on the processing of edge information transmitted through the achromatic channels of the visual system. The effects of vocalized tests on paired-associate learning were compared with those of silent tests and of blank trials by using six conditions, each repeating a pattern of six cycles including one study trial. (Editor/RK)
