STEMgagement with Computer Science: A K-12 Pandemic Case Study
Rodgers, Devery J.
AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (San Diego, CA and Virtual, Apr 21-26, 2022)
This descriptive case study tells how one urban K12 school district hosted virtual STEMgagement activities in celebration of Computer Science Education Week (CSEd Week) 2020. An ethnographic lens was used with document review to conduct an analysis of projects, programs, and services set up through the central office for nearly 24,000 students at the primary, middle grades, and secondary levels in computer sciences. Findings describe the methods of planning, set-up, implementation, follow-through, and celebration. This study will contribute to the burgeoning knowledge of Computer Science (CS) activities in K12, and serve as a beacon for learning organizations hosting virtual activities in the future.
