Towards an Adaptive Enterprise Training Facility
Van Sebille, Cornelis
International Journal of Training Research, v16 n2 p155-162 2018
Adelaide College of the Arts is a 20 year old, purpose-built hub of technical performing arts training in South Australia. Its performing arts training is made up of specialisations in technical theatre and design, dance and acting practicums. They represent an example of a learning ecology whereby emergent cultural products and processes are rapidly incubated, developed and presented. But viability is under threat from overhead costs, staff costs, changed government funding arrangements for VET students and consistently modest student numbers. An action research project was undertaken to find if creating a mobile performance--workshop venue as a teaching tool might address some of these issues. Ten specialists engaged in innovative delivery models were interviewed for the project. The findings point to the potential for greater and more flexible resource utilisation. The paper suggests the implementation of 'adaptive enterprise' delivery practices may be a solution.
