This report presents national survey data on approximately 2.8 million staff employed at 8,598 postsecondary institutions in fall 1995 from Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. The information is presented in tables, with some narrative. Survey findings are summarized in three chapters: an overview of postsecondary education staff, including data on all institutions and on the subset of 3,716 institutions classified as higher education institutions (IHEs); faculty growth, racial/ethnic and gender distribution, tenure, rank, and salaries in IHEs; and newly hired staff in IHEs. Where possible, comparisons are made with earlier data. Appended materials include detailed statistical tabulations for all institutions and for IHEs, technical notes on study methodology, a glossary of major terms and classification categories used in the survey and report, additional related tables, and a copy of the survey questionnaire.
