In April 1992 the Louisiana Department of Education sent individualized school-level profiles and district composite reports to all 66 district offices in the state. To measure the effectiveness of this program and identify areas of improvement for subsequent profiles, a survey was conducted. This report considers the responses of 363 parent association participants, teachers, and principals. The majority agreed or strongly agreed that information in the report is useful, that it can help improve the quality of education in individual schools, and that parents should continue to receive a copy of the profile. The information was found to be easy to understand, and it was generally agreed that publishing profiles in the newspaper serves a useful purpose. Principals in particular disagreed with the effectiveness of profile reports and their circulation to parents and newspapers. Members of parent associations were the most enthusiastic about the report program. Ten exhibits, which include the survey forms, illustrate the discussion. (SLD)
