Community Needs Assessment.
Chrismer, John M.
This document reports a needs assessment study designed and conducted to provide South Seattle Community College (SSCC) with information about the present and future educational, occupational training, and cultural needs of the total community served. Results of the survey are divided into chapters covering a specific population of the community which was surveyed. Chapter 2 addresses the survey of business and industry to learn types of technical and semi-professional-level jobs, number of workers in each job classification, perceived supply of available qualified workers, anticipated needs, and upgrading training needed. Chapter 3 reports the survey of the residential community to learn about residents' backgrounds, interests, and needs. Chapter 4 focuses on the survey of SSCC students to learn about backgrounds, considerations in selecting a school, reactions to SSCC programs and services, and future plans. Chapter 5 describes the survey of 1979 high school seniors to learn about backgrounds, interests, and future plans. Chapter 6 discusses the study of 1977 graduates to learn of activities since leaving high school, present activities, future plans, and needs and desires for additional educational-cultural services and activities. Appendixes, amounting to approximately one-half of the report, include the survey instruments and some survey data charts/forms and analyses. (YLB)
