Vaillancourt, Beverly
This final report contains a ten-page narrative and extensive appendixes of materials regarding, and products developed by, a project to develop assessment and educational techniques serving the adult basic education (ABE) student with learning disabilities (LD). The narrative discusses activities (and results) concerning these five project objectives: (1) identification of twenty-four learning-disabled adults; (2) review of commercial diagnostic tests and instructional materials; (3) development of learning disabilities assessment instrument (screening, prescription, and achievement within the project); (4) development of instructional methodologies in reading, math, and communication skills; and (5) staff development. The appended ABE/LD Program Implementation Guide contains forms to be completed by the LD specialist, definitions, listings of identifying characteristics, glossary, and listings of assessment and instructional resources. Another appendix is the ABE/LD screening test, the ABE Alternative Test--A Screening Device for Adult Learning Disabilities, with these subtests: word recognition, arithmetic, spelling, writing sample, and reading comprehension. Test directions, answers, scoring criterion, and scoring procedure are provided. The largest appendix, the Adult Basic Reading Program, contains ten lessons of sequential instruction in long and short vowel patterns. Each lesson plan presents objectives and procedures for using the exercise sheets provided. (YLB)
