Student Attrition within a Rural-Urban VTAE District in Wisconsin. Final Report.
Farning, Max; And Others
A study was conducted to identify the significant factors of student attrition in Wisconsin's postsecondary vocational, technical, and adult education system to determine predictability, and to indicate areas for improvement of retention measures. Survey instruments were developed to gather data from 121 non-completers and instructors. A third viewpoint was available in the form of an exit interviewer's comments reported on an exit form. Among the findings was that the ethnic background of non-completers is primariliy white (95.1%), with American Indian next (2.4%), and other and Spanish American each at 1.2 percent. Seventy-nine percent of non-completers are high school graduates. Findings also show 10 percent of non-completers to have some type of disability. A comparison of enrolled students with non-completer students on several different variables shows few significant differences. (The questionnaires are appended.) (LRA)
