Manual for the Early School Self Concept Inventory. Grades 1-3 (6 to 8 years of age). Elementary Form, 1977 Edition. Department of Research and Evaluation Report.
Meehan, Kenneth A.; And Others
The Early School Self-Concept Inventory (ESSCI) was developed for use in grades one, two and three, or ages approximately six through eight years. It consists of forty brief questions, each requiring "yes" or "no" answers. Testing time is generally 15-20 minutes for an average classroom size group. The ESSCI yields a set of four scale scores: peer relations, school adjustment, home and family interaction, and self-esteem. Norms are based on a sample of 459 primary school children, representative of a large urban Canadian School System. Reliability data are presented in terms of homogeneity and stability. Validity data are based on the administration of five scales of the Early School Personality Questionnaire and a modified version of the How I See Myself scale to the original sample of students. In addition, teachers provided ratings of each student along six dimensions of self-concept. (Author/BW)
