Everyday Aesthetics of Schools: Revealing How Schools Organize and Re-Create Sensibility
Marini, Guillermo
AERA Online Paper Repository, Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (San Antonio, TX, Apr 27-May 1, 2017)
This proposal discusses what an everyday aesthetics dimension of school might look like, and explores how the everyday aesthetics of schools may help qualify the intersubjective relationships that build up school life and the school´s educational project. It presents the image of a school hallway as an example of how the analogical and visual comprehension of everyday aesthetics qualities may contribute to problematizing the connection between those who inhabit the school and how the school feels. In an age with far more aesthetic stimuli than abilities to analyze them, one would expect the school to develop opportunities to identify, criticize and recreate its very own aesthetics as a means of educating more alert and sensitive students.
