Factor Analysis of Various Anaerobic Power Tests.
Manning, James M.; And Others
A study investigated the relationship between selected anthropometric variables and of numerous anaerobic power tests with measures obtained on an isokinetic dynamometer. Thirty-one male college students performed several anaerobic power tests, including: the vertical jump using the Lewis formula; the Margaria-Kalamen stair climb test; the Wingate maximun anaerobic capacity and peak power test; the Cybex II isokinetic measures for knee extension and ankle plantar flexion; the 40-yard dash; and the standing long jump. Principal factor analysis and rotation using the varimax criterion were used to identify significant correlations. Results showed no single factor emerged and that unrelated aspects existed among these tests and that they were not measuring similar qualities. It is suggested that anaerobic tests that are used to evaluate anaerobic power be performed as specifically as the skill being tested. (Author/CB)
