What Works Clearinghouse Rating

Johnston, Frances A.; Johnston, Shawn A. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Attempted to identify differences between human figure drawings of adult and juvenile child molesters and adult and juvenile control groups, based on ratings obtained for psychodiagnostic signs. Results revealed, for the molesters, factors of overall quality with a component of gender identity confusion, figure-size only, fingers only, and hidden…

Olds, Jacqueline; Harrison, Alexandra M. – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1982
Children's religious ideas can provide relevant projective material in psychiatric evaluation, sometimes revealing information about parental introjects, superego and defense formation levels and anxiety areas. Frequently ignored, the material can be a useful adjunct when evaluative techniques give an incomplete picture. (Author/CM)

Gordon, Michael; Oshman, Harvey – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
The Rorschach protocols of 20 boys (ages 6-11 years) rated by their teachers as hyperactive and those of 20 nonhyperactive boys were compared along 16 indices. Findings are discussed in terms of the assessment of hyperactivity within a conceptual framework which regards impulsivity as a major underlying dimension. (Author/SJL)

Schlesinger, Louis B.; Kutash, Irwin L. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1981
Presents a newly developed projective technique that utilizes criminal fantasy to help predict crime. Statistical significance regarding the difference in number of judged pathological stories for the two groups was reached for all cards that were designed to elicit sexual fantasy. (Author)

Jones, Stanley E.; Aiello, John R. – Western Journal of Speech Communication, 1979
Discusses research supporting the conclusion that projective and quasi-projective measures of interpersonal distance do not measure the same phenomena as interactional measures. It is possible that they are more indicative of psychological rather than physical distance. (JMF)
Descriptors: Behavioral Science Research, Distance, Interaction, Interpersonal Competence

Howard, Justine – Early Child Development and Care, 2002
Used the Activity Apperception Story Procedure to elicit perceptions of play, work, and learning from 3- to 6-year-olds. Found that children could distinguish play/work and learning/not learning using photographs. While children attended to anticipated cues for justifying their classification of photos, the justification data suggested that the…

Silver, Rawley – Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, 1992

Lambeth, Pauline J. – 1991
Finding innovative and effective methods to infer the ability of culturally diverse students continues to present a problem for educators. This paper proposes the House-Tree-Person (HTP) projective technique as a way for school educators to gather important data about student functioning without the use of culturally biased instruments. This…

Kohlberg's Moral Judgment Scale, Gilligan, et al.'s Sexual Moral Judgment Scale, Maitland and Goldman's Objective Moral Judgment Scale, and Hogan's Maturity of Moral Judgment Scale were examined for reliability and inter-scale relationships. Vincent, Ken R.; Duthie, Bruce – Social Behavior and Personality, 1986
Examined the comparability of Rorschach Inkblots and the Holtzman Inkblots. Subjects (N=27) were administered both instruments and their responses scored using the standard Holtzman Inkblot Technique variables. The number of responses was controlled when using the Rorschach. Results indicate that the Rorschach Inkblots were a satisfactory…

Bieliauskas, Vytautas J.; Farragher, John – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1983
Administered the House-Tree-Person test to male college students (N=24) to examine the effects of varying the size of the drawing form on the scores. Results suggested that use of the drawing sheet did not have a significant influence upon the quantitative aspects of the drawing. (LLL)

Mellstrom, Martin, Jr.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1978
Compared predictive validity of anxiety measures.
