Rudnitsky, Alan N.; Posner, George J. – 1976
This study investigates the effects of content sequence on student learning. The treatments, a spatial and conceptual instructional sequence each consisting of identical content elements, were administered to students in a two-year college Botany course. Hypotheses tested were that sequence would have an effect on student perceptions of the…

Boulouffe, Jacqueline – Language Learning, 1986
Study of equilibration between assimilatory and accommodatory processes in the learning styles of first-year French-speaking students of English as a second language indicated that: students' alternative frameworks should be exposed; intake is penetrable; equilibration leads to learning in the broad sense; and language pedagogy should downtone its…

Hicks, Carolyn – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1980
Four experiments were carried out to examine the different recall strategies employed in a diagnostic test of visual sequential memory. The principal implication of the results is that good and poor readers may not differ with respect to visual memory but in their ability to employ a verbal labeling strategy. (Author/KC)

Umbreit, John – Journal of the Association for the Severely Handicapped (JASH), 1980
Findings suggested that developmental sequencing (of the sort attempted here) may provide an adequate general guide for selecting and sequencing curricula and instruction, but does not provide precise skill sequences which have significant effects on learning rate. (Author)

McCaleb, Joseph L.; White, Jacqueline A. – Journal of Classroom Interaction, 1980
An analysis of studies on teacher clarity reveals five components: (1) understanding; (2) structuring; (3) sequencing; (4) explaining; and (5) presenting. Three additional dimensions to be considered are rater qualifications, teacher dynamism, and student opportunity to learn. (CMJ)

Underwood, Benton J.; Lund, Arnold M. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1979
Subjects learned one, two, or three verbal lists simultaneously. Recall of the common list after 24 hours increased directly as the number of lists learned simultaneously increased. Assuming that simultaneous learning reduced interference, the interference was from extraexperimental sources of a proactive nature. (Author/CP)
Descriptors: Associative Learning, Difficulty Level, Learning Problems, Learning Processes

Trembath, Richard J.; White, Richard T. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1979
Mastery learning techniques were improved through mathematics instruction based on a validated learning hierarchy, presenting tasks in a sequence consistent with the requirements of the hierarchy, and requiring learners to demonstrate achievement before being allowed to proceed. (Author/GDC)

Chen, Weiyun; Cone, Theresa – Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, 2003
Examined how elementary students' use of critical thinking in their movement actions was inspired by an "expert" teacher's task design, task presentation, and instructional strategies during creative dance lessons. Data from videotaped lessons and written anecdotes indicated that by presenting sequential, open- ended tasks and learning…

Boulton-Lewis, Gillian M. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1987
Describes study of elementary school children in Australia which was designed to determine their sequential knowledge of measuring length and to apply recent cognitive theories to predict the sequence of development of knowledge. Recent literature is reviewed, information processing skills are discussed, and skills required for measuring length…

Yoder, Paul J.; And Others – Journal of Early Intervention, 1994
Nineteen children with developmental delays in the first stage of language learning conversed with their parents in a laboratory setting. Adult utterances were coded for topic, question type, and nonquestions. Child utterances were coded for topic. Child topic continuations were more likely to follow adult continuing questions than any other type…

Kroesbergen, Evelyn H.; Van Luit, Johannes E. H.; Naglieri, Jack A. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2003
This study examined relationships between mathematical learning difficulties (MLD) and the planning, attention, simultaneous, successive (PASS) theory of cognitive processing. PASS processes were assessed in 267 Dutch students with MLD. Results indicated students with MLD performed lower than peers on all "Cognitive Assessment System"…

Driscoll, Marcy P.; And Others – 1988
The two studies detailed in this paper investigated the effects of adaptive sequencing of examples and adaptive feedback on concept learning using computer-based instruction. In the first study, two groups of undergraduate students progressed through a set of five behavior management concepts presented in the rational set generator framework.…

Kershman, Susan M.; Hart, Verna – 1975
A hypothesized hierarchy of tasks in the development of tactual discrimination (an essential skill for reading) was tested in 60 blind primary level children. For five braille and five Optacon (optical to tactile converter) sequences, Ss were asked to identify the different stimulus from the four presented. Scalogram analysis was used to examine…

Umezu, Hachizo – 1974
The monograph describes the development of verbal behavior over a 20-year period in two deaf Japanese children (5- and 7-years-old when first contacted by the author) with whom previous training attempts had failed. It is noted that prior training methods which had succeeded with Laura Bridgman and Helen Keller failed with these two children. A…

Wright, John C; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1984
Measures children's attention to television programs varying in pace and continuity and assesses recall of the temporal sequence of program events. Attention and comprehension covaried more in animated than in live shows. Age, continuity, and pace effects on recall were not fully accounted for by their effects on attention. (Author/AS)
