Williams, Rhea P. – Nursing Outlook, 1989
Nursing faculty (N=28) in baccalaureate programs were interviewed about work-related activities, publication rates, and primary interests. This was compared with similar data from faculty in other disciplines. Results indicate that nursing faculty favor teaching activities and are less oriented toward conducting research than their peers. (CH)

Selected literature related to faculty evaluations by students was reviewed. The psychometric properties of evaluation instruments were examined with particular emphasis on factors that affect validity. Content analysis was done of actual performance appraisal policies, procedures, and forms of 86 schools with graduate programs in nursing. Performance appraisal systems were found to be in early stages of development. Administrators of accounting education programs (106 respondents) were asked about the use of student evaluations of faculty and the relative importance of teaching in evaluations.
