A study of an analytical system for evaluating class II cavity preparations in primary teeth was developed, tested, and compared with the traditional global evaluation method with respect to intraexaminer and interexaminer reliability. Reviews of medical education programs suggest that physicians are not adequately trained in mental retardation. A study of 64 U.S. medical schools is discussed that indicates that almost half presented only minimal coverage on the topic of mental retardation and offered inadequate clinical experience. A study on medical students' attitudes toward psychiatry completed at the McGill University teaching hospitals is presented. The findings indicated that the clinical training program influenced medical students' opinions of psychiatry, although very few would commit themselves to choosing psychiatry as their future career. Students and faculty were polled for their reactions to a new format for grouping third- and fourth-year dental students and full- and part-time faculty for more efficient clinical instruction. Both groups felt positively about the change. More study of student-faculty relationships and of dental care level effects is recommended. (MSE)
