Walker, Lawrence J. – Child Development, 1984
Bases for recent allegations of sex bias in Kohlberg's theory of moral development are discussed, and studies comparing the development of moral reasoning across the sexes are reviewed. A meta-analysis supported the conclusion that the overall pattern is one of nonsignificant sex differences in moral reasoning. (Author/RH)

Canary, Daniel J.; Hause, Kimberley S. – Communication Quarterly, 1993
Analyzes empirical findings and conceptual problems to clarify how sex differences are related to communication. Finds that conceptual reasons for the muddled picture of sex differences in communication research include reliance on stereotypes, polarization of the sexes, lack of valid reasons, and dearth of theory. (SR)

Linn, Marcia C.; Petersen, Anne C. – Child Development, 1985
Results suggest that (1) sex differences are found for some types of spatial ability but not others; (2) large sex differences are found only on measures of mental rotation; (3) smaller sex differences are found on measures of spatial perception; and (4) when sex differences are found, they can be detected across the life span. (Author/RH)

Etsey, Y. Kafui; Snetzler, Suzi – 1998
This paper presents a meta-analysis study that addresses gender differences in student attitudes toward mathematics for the years 1970 to 1995. A body of 96 primary studies were used including 30,490 students (15,877 female and 14,613 males), 69 journal articles, and 27 ERIC documents in the analysis. The major conclusion of this study is that…

Whitley, Bernard E., Jr.; Nelson, Amanda Bichlmeier; Jones, Curtis J. – Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, 1999
Conducted a meta-analysis that included studies of gender differences in college students' attitudes toward cheating, cheating behavior, and both attitudes and behaviors. Grob, Lindsay M.; Allen, Mike – 1996
Sex differences in language use have been examined for many years, but no clear-cut conclusions exist. A meta-analysis of the existing literature was conducted regarding powerful/powerless language use, including 30 studies, with a total combined sample size of 3,012. The overall correlation indicated that men use more powerful language than…

Bessette, Janelle M.; And Others – 1985
There has been virtually no investigation of the differences between male and female responses to unjust conditions. This study is a meta-analysis of those studies investigating the conditions under which individuals will assume responsibility for lower outcomes under unjust discriminatory practices. Three conditions were investigated which…

Blake, Catherine; Cohen, Henri – 1984
According to Gilligan (1982) there are two different orientations for describing moral development: a justice orientation characteristic of males, and a care orientation characteristic of females. Gilligan claims that the care orientation is confounded with the justice orientation in Kohlberg's (1983) conceptualization of Stage 3: mutual…

Born, Marise Ph.; And Others – Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, 1987
Meta analysis is used to examine the results of 189 studies concerning sex and intelligence. The relationship between these two variables is investigated for five large clusters of cultures. Thompson, Bruce – Journal of Experimental Education, 1989

Dallinger, Judith M.; Hample, Dale – Communication Reports, 1994
Reports a secondary data analysis of eight separate studies of cognitive editing, with regard to the question of whether males and females edit their persuasive messages differently. Synk, David J. – 1983
This study used meta-analysis research techniques to determine if there are differences in General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB) validities and test scores between males and females. The sample consisted of 26,111 subjects from 122 Specific Aptitude Test Battery (SATB) validation or revalidation studies analyzed since 1972. Four approaches were…
