Objective: A package of parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) combined with a self-motivational (SM) orientation previously was found in a laboratory trial to reduce child abuse recidivism compared with services as usual (SAU). Reports on girls (n=5) who had been sexually abused but had failed to disclose any sexual contact in a sexual-abuse disclosure interview (false negatives). Chaffin, Mark; And Others – Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, 1997
Coping strategies used by 84 sexually abused children ages 7-12 were evaluated along with related symptoms and factors. Internalization was associated with increased guilt, and active/social coping was associated with no symptoms or benefits. Expressive…

Chaffin, Mark – Child Abuse and Neglect: The International Journal, 1992
Thirty-six father-daughter/stepdaughter sexual abusers were followed over the course of a two-year outpatient treatment program. Results supported the importance of pretreatment personality assessment and suggested that involvement of the criminal justice system does not interfere with, and may help, therapeutic progress. Lawson, Louanne; Chaffin, Mark – Journal of Interpersonal Violence, 1992
Studied verbal disclosure of abuse in a sample of 28 children who presented with purely physical complaints later diagnosed as a sexually transmitted disease.
