Etsuo Taguchi; Greta Gorsuch; Kristin Lems; Hiroto Toda; Toshiko Kawaguchi; Kirsten M. Snipp – Reading in a Foreign Language, 2024
This paper examines learners' fluency development in L2 silent reading rate and comprehension. In both L1 and L2 readings, a positive relationship between readers' silent reading rate and comprehension has not been as firmly established as theories might propose. Based on Wallot et al. (2014), the paper indicates the need to look at readers'…

Harn, Beth A.; Stoolmiller, Mike; Chard, David J. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2008
This article presents critical issues related to word reading development within Ehri's theoretical context by focusing primarily on the relation of decoding skill (of nonwords) to word reading and the development of unitization. Jeanne Wanzek; Sharon Vaughn – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2008
Two studies examined response to varying amounts of time in reading intervention for two cohorts of first-grade students demonstrating low levels of reading after previous intervention. Lefly, Dianne L.; Pennington, Bruce F. – Annals of Dyslexia, 1991
Two studies compared intelligence quotient, reading achievement test results, and spelling errors in 57 adult dyslexics, 56 adult nondyslexics, and 25 adult compensated dyslexics. Results suggest that compensated dyslexics appear very similar to nondyslexics in their reading and spelling skills; however, there is a difference in the automaticity…

Arthaud, Tamara J.; Ranin, Joan L. – Diagnostique, 1996
Effects of differentiated feedback on the oral reading rate of three secondary students with learning disabilities were studied. The study found that visual feedback increased the overall reading rate more than verbal feedback or miscue analysis. Using both visual and miscue analysis feedback yielded the greatest reading accuracy. (CR)

Silberglitt, Benjamin; Burns, Matthew K.; Madyun, Na'im H.; Lail, Kathryn E. – Psychology in the Schools, 2006
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 mandated statewide accountability testing and focused the accountability conversation on reading. Therefore, the current study examined the relationship between curriculum-based measurement for reading (R-CBM) and state accountability test scores, potential grade differences in relationship magnitude, and…

Tindal, Gerald; And Others – Diagnostique, 1992
This study examined the construct validity of curriculum-based measures of oral reading fluency from basal reading programs. Twelve special education students (grades 2-5) were monitored for oral fluency using 2 reading curricula (their instructional curriculum and the mainstream reading curriculum) throughout the academic year. Performance…

Two studies with poor readers in grade 4 (total N=68) examined the relationship between word identification speed and story reading fluency. Benefits were found for single-word practice prior to reading stories containing those words, even for children who were particularly poor namers. Results are related to theoretical links between fluency and…
