Monastersky, Richard – Science News, 1992
Researchers who study the fossil record are seeking to determine whether the impact made by a comet or meteor really did decimate up to half of the life on this planet at the end of the Cretaceous period. Questions whether the extinction of plant and animal life was abrupt, started before the impact, or was a gradual change. (KR)

Govindjee; Coleman, William J. – Scientific American, 1990
Discusses the biochemical mechanisms related to photosynthesis. Describes a water-oxidizing clock generating a molecule of oxygen with every four ticks. Lists four references. (YP)

Darley, W. Marshall – American Biology Teacher, 1990
Major differences between plants and animals are presented. Discussed are autotrophs and heterotrophs, plant growth and development, gas exchange, the evolution of plants, ecosystem components, the alleged inferiority of plants, and fungi. (CW)

Dai, Mei-Fun Wang – 1995
The study reported in this paper intended to trace what Chinese children think about life and identify their naive theories. Fifty-eight 5-year-old children in Taiwan from 39 kindergartens were interviewed using a semi-structured instrument. Harvey, Margarette R. – Journal of Environmental Education, 1990
Evaluated is the impact of the landscape upon children in 21 schools in England. Past and present experiences of 8- to 11-year-old children were measured. Results indicate that both past and present experiences make a small but significant contribution to the children's development of botanical knowledge and environmental dispositions. (Author/CW)
