Your First Year: A Community of Teachers
Cookson, Peter W., Jr.
Teaching Pre K-8, v35 n7 p12-13 Apr 2005
It is difficult to retain teachers who work in isolated communities, in very poor communities and communities where parental levels of education are not high. This paper describes the creation of a "New Teacher Academy" in one such unstable school district. Working closely with the new teachers in the district, a program was created based on peer support, a strong curriculum, and the development of a sense of "community."
