The lack of base preparation for Mexican Americans that results in their underrepresentation in college is discussed, and some beginning remedies for the identified problems are suggested. Barriers at four-year colleges and universities are identified in areas of finances, unfair admissions criteria, academic preparedness, and the lack of Hispanic faculty and administrators. Public policy implications are considered. (NB)
