The role that the counselor assumes during termination is critical for the overall success of therapy. Counselors must be equipped to restate, clarify, reinforce, summarize and challenge. Personal involvement, enthusiasm, and realistic optimism by the counselor will improve client's self-understanding and will increase client receptivity to future counseling experiences. (RC)
