The Federal government's oversight of its food and nutrition programs is discussed in this transcript of a Senate hearing. Testimony is presented regarding food stamps, the school lunch program, problems of targeting the needy, the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), commodity distribution, surplus dairy product distribution, and other topics. Among the witnesses who responded to questions from Senators were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and the General Accounting Office (GAO).
