Sternberg, Robert J. – Intelligence, 1990
It is asserted that the statistical arguments proposed by Humphreys are not supported by the formula he presents. The disagreement with Larson is with the contention that there exists one correct theoretical framework in which intelligence research should be posed. The respective viewpoints are seen as complementary, not competing. (SLD)

Jeyakumar, Sharon L. E.; Warriner, Erin M.; Raval, Vaishali V.; Ahmad, Saadia A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2004
Tables permitting the conversion of short-form composite scores to full-scale IQ estimates have been published for previous editions of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). Equivalent tables are now needed for selected subtests of the WAIS-III. This article used Tellegen and Briggs's formulae to convert the sum of scaled scores for four…

Searcy, Yvonne M.; Lincoln, Alan J.; Rose, Fredric E.; Klima, Edward S.; Bavar, Nasim; Korenberg, Julie R. – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 2004
The relationship between age and IQ was evaluated in a cross-sectional sample of 80 individuals with Williams syndrome (17 to 52 years). The relationship between age and WAIS-R subtest scores was such that increases and decreases in raw scores occurred at a rate sufficient to maintain stability of age-corrected scaled scores, indicating a…

Witta, E. Lea; Keith, Timothy Z. – 1994
Although the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) is being rapidly replaced by the third edition of the WISC, questions concerning the construct validity of the WISC-R have not yet been resolved, including the number of factors it measures and whether the same constructs fit across all age levels. This study sought to…

O'Neill, Audrey Myerson – 1993
The clinical inference process in test interpretation is described so that people can more easily communicate about it, teach it, and learn it. Chapter 1 compares different levels (concrete, mechanical, and individualized) of interpretation of the same test. Chapter 2 offers examples of an often-neglected kind of data necessary for individualized…

Coffman, William E. – 1986
Three new tests presented as alternatives to the Wechsler tests for children were described in earlier papers of this session. This discussion reviews the earlier papers and comments on the developed tests: (1) the Woodcock-Johnson test; (2) the new Stanford-Binet; and (3) the K-ABC. The Woodcock-Johnson battery, state-of-the-art applications of…

Menacker, Julius; Morris, Van Cleve – Educational Forum, 1985
The authors examine three major court cases to illustrate a lack of judicial restraint in handling the essentially educational issue of intelligence testing. The authors trace the impact of these three decisions on the shaping of educational policy. The cases are Hobson v. Hansen (1967); Larry P. v. Riles (1979); and PASE v. Hannon (1980). (CT)

Schakel, Jacqueline A. – School Psychology Review, 1986
The need for an ecological approach to cognitive assessment of preschool-aged children is discussed. Purposes of and popular approaches for cognitive assessment are presented. Tests and techniques are reviewed, and implications for the practice of psychology in the schools are discussed. (Author/LMO)

Sternberg, Robert J. – Contemporary Education Review, 1983
The Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC) attempts to improve on the theory and technology of intelligence testing. The criteria used for this evaluation of the K-ABC are adequate theoretical basis; expanded range of abilities measured; incremental as well as convergent and discriminant validity; multiple meaningful scores; and training…

Raykov, Tenko – Structural Equation Modeling, 1996
Studied modeling individual latent growth curves of older adults on measures of fluid intelligence by fitting second-order polynomial curves reflecting initial test performance improvement followed by relative stability/drop to the recorded scores of each of 248 subjects. Results suggest substantial plasticity in fluid intelligence of older…

Glutting, Joseph J.; Bear, George G. – Learning Disability Quarterly, 1989
The study evaluated the utility of Kaufman-Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC) subtests in differentiating learning-disabled children from students with other handicapping conditions, and compared K-ABC subtests with Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised subtests. Results showed that subtest scores did not enhance differential…
