Selection and Reconsideration Policies in Arkansas Schools: How Well Are We Doing?
Huffman, Stephanie P.; Thurman, Glenda
Reading Improvement, v44 n2 p99-108 Sum 2007
The intent of the research is to focus attention on the existence and use of selection policies and to analyze selection policies to determine their thoroughness and currency. Professional guidelines and experts in the field offer direction on the selection of materials and criteria on dealing with challenges in the school library media center. This research questions the basic theoretical assumption that all schools in Arkansas: 1) have selection and reconsideration policies, 2) that these policies are board approved, and 3) that these policies follow national professional guidelines. Therefore, this research analyzed the difference between reported reality and professional theory. (Contains 9 tables.)
