Using Jigs and Fixtures: A Design Brief
Dyer, Leon; Stephan, Stuart
Tech Directions, v63 n10 p19-20 May 2004
The term "tooling" refers to a variety of devices that increase production efficiency in manufacturing. Incorporating the appropriate tooling in the production process generally improves accuracy, speed, and safety. This in turn leads to more profit for the producer and lower prices for the consumer. This article introduces students to two common types of tooling, jigs and fixtures, and gives students experience with their design and use. (Contains 5 photos.)
