A recent debate has raised controversy over the implementation of helmets in the game of women's lacrosse. Women have been participating in this game of finesse and skill without the need for safety equipment, yet in the past decade goggles have been mandated to compensate for the technological advancements in equipment that has increased the speed and intensity of the game. Safety advocates argue that helmets would result in a safer, more controlled atmosphere. However, those who are directly involved with women's lacrosse as a player, coach, board member or even a spectator, can all attest to the fact that helmets would promote a more physical game, destroying the poise and composure that it exhibits. To keep the integrity of the game, U.S. Lacrosse values the emphasis of education and rule enforcement in order to keep the game unchanged.
