This conference paper reports a search for information about research on continuing education in New Zealand carried out by people working in or with organizations and agencies usually classified as educational or for research related to those agencies. A section on information sources used is followed by one discussing trends in research. Four major studies with broad implications are then addressed. A final section discusses gaps in the research, as indicated by materials provided in the appendixes. These appendixes, which amount to approximately two-thirds of the paper, include (1) references; (2) outline of agencies providing continuing education, both national organizations and regional and local ones; (3) statistics tables with information indicating changes in emphases and expenditures in various post-school sectors; (4) listing of research projects in continuing education that were located by questionnaire; and (5) analysis of continuing education studies identified in the lists of unpublished degree and diploma studies for 1970-79.
